IN A NUTSHELL: Matt McGee did his best Brennan Norus impression with 106 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries, and Ernest Harvey added another score to go aong with 128 all-purpose yards as Port Charlotte shut out Bayshore 33-0.

DID YOU SEE THAT: Tiyan “Pop” Bush changed directions three times on a punt return, taking the ball more than 40 yards down the field to the Bruins 20 to set up a 47-yard Devon McCormick field goal.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN: Port Charlotte linebacker Caden Marcum recovered quarterback Ryan O’Neill’s fumble on the Bruins’ first drive of the second half. The first of Marcum’s two fumble recoveries set uo McGee’s third touchdown seven plays later.

UNSUNG HERO: Paul Barnes. The quarterback looked much more comfortable in his first spring game as the Pirates’ starting quarterback, shaking off a first-pass interception to complete five of his next seven throws for 78 yards. He also rushed six times for 27 yards.

THEY SAID IT: “The kids played hard tonight, but fundamentally, we weren’t as focused tonight. Credit to them it’s been an outstanding spring. It’s been a very, very tough spring. But there’s a lot of room for growth. These next two months will determing how succesful we are in the fall.” — Port Charlotte coach Jordan Ingman
