CHARLOTTE 48, CLEWISTON 0
IN A NUTSHELL: After fumbling on its first possession of a game that was delayed 100 minutes by lightning strikes in the area, Charlotte scored the next seven times it had the ball for a 48-0 rout of Clewiston in their preseason game in Punta Gorda. The Tarpons blew the game open with a 27-point second quarter for a 34-0 halftime cushion, then scored midway through the third period to bring on a running clock the rest of the way.
DID YOU SEE THAT: Running backs D’Vonte Price and Maleek Williams combined for five touchdowns to power the rout. Price ran for scores over 36 and 8 yards, and caught a 20-yard pass from Dee Hicks. Williams, who led all runners with 78 yards on 14 carries, scored on runs of 2 and 5 yards.
THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN: Essentially, when Charlotte stopped the Tigers on their first possession. The Tarpons lost a fumble on their third play after the opening kickoff, but forced a 3-and-out on defense, and rolled through the visitors the rest of the game offensively, and met them at every turn defensively.
UNSUNG HERO: Wide receiver Travon McClary caught five passes for 93 yards and a 18-yard touchdown. The senior was on the catching end of half of the completions by quarterback Dee Hicks, who was making his first start at the position.
