The Pirates only lost four seniors to graduation. Both the team chemistry and experience is going to be a major factor for them. A majority of the team has been there and done that, so look for them to build on a season where they made it to the regional playoffs.
Just like a lot of high school teams, the Pirates may lack in depth when you look beyond their starters.
PLAYER TO WATCH
ERNEST HARVEY – JUNIOR – RB
It was the Brennan Norus show last year in Port Charlotte, but Harvey still managed to quietly rack up 800 yards and nine touchdowns in a secondary role. Look for him to have a breakout year, as he’ll now be the feature back. While Norus ran up the middle, Harvey will do his damage with speed around the edges.
UNDER THE RADAR
TIYAN “POP” BUSH – SENIOR – LB
Bush primarily played in the secondary last season for the Pirates, but look for him to transition to a linebacker this season. He’s probably to most skilled of the “non-skill” players at Port Charlotte. Expect him to be a big difference-maker in the middle of the field this season.
