FOOTBALL: Preview of all the area games tonight

Game-by-game previews of all of tonight’s football games

Port Charlotte (7-5)
at Lemon Bay (8-3)

Kickoff: 7 p.m.
Last week: Port Charlotte 7, Victory Christian 0; Lemon Bay DNP
Last season: Port Charlotte 28, Lemon Bay 0
Players to watch: Port Charlotte: Paul Barnes (Jr., QB), Tiyan “Pop” Bush (Sr., LB), Ernest Harvey (Sr., RB); Lemon Bay: Victor Mellor (Sr., QB/DB), Brayden Curry (Sr., RB), Logan Lydic (Jr., LB).
What to expect: The Pirates figure to be heavy favorites in this one, but don’t expect the Manta Rays to roll over. Pride and bragging rights are at stake in this county rivalry, so look for this one to be a contested game.

Fort Lauderdale (4-6 )
 at Charlotte (12-1)

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Last week: Fort Lauderdale NA; Charlotte 48, Clewiston 0
Last season: Charlotte 40, Fort Lauderdale 0.
Players to watch: Fort Lauderdale: Torri Young (Sr., OL/DE), Kewann Calloway (Sr., DB), Amari Smith (Sr., ATH); Charlotte: Dee Hicks (Sr., QB), Maleek Williams (Sr., RB), Jacob White (Sr., WR/DB).
What to expect: Last year’s score is fairly indicative of what to expect again this year. If the Tarpons can manage to run up the score in the first half, it could be a good opportunity for the second team to get some experience early in the season.

Cypress Lake (2-7)
at North Port (2-8)

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Last week: Cypress Lake NA; Lehigh 18, North Port 7.
Last season: North Port 28, Cypress Lake 13
Players to watch: Cypress Lake: Keyon Brawner (Jr., QB), Onaldo Eveque (Sr., LB), Christopher Joseph (So, RB/LB); North Port: Skylar Razwilavich (Jr., QB), C.K. Poulos (Jr., WR), John Cruz (Sr., LB).
What to expect: Both teams will be looking to improve on a building year from last season. This could be an opportunity for the Bobcats to get an early-season win, and start 2016 on the right foot.

Camden Co. (Ga.) (10-2)
at Venice (10-2)

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Last week: Camden County DNP; Venice d. Plant, 38-25.
Last season: Did not play
Players to watch: Camden County: John Jones (Sr., QB), Mikey Packard (Sr., RB); Venice: Court Doss (Jr., RB), Bryce Carpenter (Jr., QB)
What to expect: The Indians have a great shot at reaching the Class 7A state championship this season. This is a tough out-of-state game against one of Georgia’s perennial power programs. A win would look nice on the resume.

Sebring (8-2) at
 DeSoto County (2-8)

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Last week: Cardinal Mooney 29, DeSoto County 15.
Last season: Sebring 41, DeSoto County 0.
Players to watch: Sebring: Donte Carpenter (Sr., LB), Brian Lane (Jr., QB); DeSoto County: Niron Washington (Sr. RB/DB), Emmanuel Wesley (Sr., WR/DB).
What to expect: A win for Sebring over DeSoto County last year was the first on the way to a 7-0 start to the season. After faltering over the final three games, look for Sebring to come out in week one and show no mercy.

Note: Records are from 2015
