IN A NUTSHELL: After lightning postponed the game from Friday night to Saturday morning, Cypress Lake jumped out of bed ready to play some football. The Panthers scored 33 unanswered points in the game — 20 in the second quarter — via offense, defense and special teams.

DID YOU SEE THAT: With the first half coming to a close, North Port punted the ball away to Cypress Lake’s returner Chris Joseph, who thought the ball was going further than it really was. Joseph quickly recovered and ran towards the ball, caught it at full speed and used the boost to go 54 yards for a touchdown with 22.8 seconds remaining in the half, giving the Panthers a 26-0 lead at intermission.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN: North Port quarterback Travis Cook fumbled the ball under pressure on the final play of the first quarter. Keyon Brawner caught the ball in mid-air and returned it 62 yards for the game’s first touchdown and Cypress Lake never trailed from there.

UNSUNG HERO: Octavious Cummings scored North Port’s only touchdown of the game, a 4-yard run at the beginning of the fourth quarter to prevent the shutout.

THEY SAID IT: “We just didn’t finish. We had turnovers and we gave up a big play on special teams and we gave up a big play on defense and that was the first half so when you dig yourself in a hole it’s hard to get out of that. We just wanted to try and come out in the second half and take it play by play and see if we could get back into it and obviously that didn’t happen.” — North Port coach Brian Hatler
