IN A NUTSHELL: Port Charlotte ran Barron Collier into the ground, rushing for a combined 384 yards on 50 carries to score the game’s first 33 points. Running back Shawn Campbell led the charge with 92 yards and two touchdowns while quarterback Paul Barnes scored a touchdown with his arm and his legs.

DID YOU SEE THAT: Right after Port Charlotte took a 20-0 lead after halftime, TJ Luther made a diving interception towards the sideline two plays later. Luther caught the ball with outstretched arms and managed to tap his foot in bounds for his second interception of the night. It also helped set up the Pirates’ next touchdown.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN: After going into the locker room up 13-0, Port Charlotte extended the lead quickly to begin the third quarter. Barnes hit Luther over the middle and he sped off for a 51-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 20-0. The Pirates would score 13 more points before the Cougars ever found the end zone.

UNSUNG HERO: Port Charlotte’s offensive line. Three different rushers ran for 80 yards in the game (Campbell, Barnes and Earnest Harvey) while Davon Keyes also tallied 78 yards as the Pirates scored three touchdowns on the ground.

THEY SAID IT: “I’m very proud of my guys. Their conditioning showed tonight because that takes work. You just can’t come out on Friday nights and do it. The kids played extremely hard on both sides of the football tonight. Our kids went out and physically hammered and that’s because they’ve worked so hard in practice and so hard all year.” — Port Charlotte Jordan Ingman.
