NORTH PORT — The Imagine School of North Port lost in straight sets to the Village School of Naples Wednesday night.
The first set was close, but after that, the Knights won the final two sets with ease. The scores wound up being 27-25, 25-17, 25-12.
“This is a very young team,” Sharks coach Mililani Quinsaat said. “Some are returning from last year, some are new, and some have transferred, so it’s a combination of chemistry still being worked on. “
Imagine scored the first point of the third set, but Village went on to win 22 of the next 27 points, as they jumped out to a 22-6 lead. Kaylynn Earley’s serve helped the Sharks go on a six-point run, while they attempted to cut into the deficit.
The Sharks (0-3) again grabbed an early lead in the second set, this time it was 5-1 in their favor, but again, the Village (8-1) experience took advantage of the young Imagine squad. The Knights went on a 17-6 run at one point, on the way to a 25-17 victory.
Earley had a strong performance in the loss. The sophomore had six serving aces, and four blocks.
A block of hers was critical in the first set, as Imagine trailed 23-19 at one point. Earley’s block brought it to 23-22 in favor of the Knights, and the Sharks eventually took a 25-24 lead on Earley’s kill.
Village grabbed the next three points to win the first set.
“It would have been motivational (to win the first set),” Quinsaat said. “Hopefully they can work harder in the next match and see what worked and didn’t work tonight.”
