IN A NUTSHELL: After the first quarter ended in a 21-21 tie, Charlotte went on to score 35 unanswered points to rout North Miami at home. The Tarpons scored touchdowns on the first play of a drive four times, and were led by Maleek Williams, who scored three touchdowns and rushed for 175 yards on 12 carries

DID YOU SEE THAT: Following the second of three interceptions by Savorion Warren, quarterback D’Andre Hicks kept the ball in the option on the very next play, and darted through the middle of North Miami’s defense, running 91 yards untouched for a score to extend Charlotte’s lead to 49-21 in the third quarter.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN: Shortly after halftime, Maleek Williams burst down the sideline for a 72-yard touchdown run — his second of the game — to double up North Miami for a 42-21 lead. The touchdown was deflating, considering right before halftime the Pioneers allowed the Tarpons to score with 14 seconds remaining on a 33-yard shovel pass to Ny Harvey.

UNSUNG HERO: Savorion Warren had three of Charlotte’s four interceptions in the game, one right before halftime to set up Harvey’s touchdown and another on a deep pass in one-on-one coverage inside Charlotte’s 10-yard line to prevent a scoring opportunity. Hicks scored on a 91-yard touchdown run on the very next play.

THEY SAID IT: “We struggled the first quarter offensively and made a lot of mistakes. They were doing a lot of things we worked on. We didn’t do a very good job. We’ve got some work to do and find people who want to be out there making plays. But I’m proud of the way they hung in there. The defense played well the rest of the game after that last score in the first quarter.”— Charlotte coach Binky Waldrop.
