IN A NUTSHELL: Charlotte scored on five plays exceeding 20 or more yards in the first two quarters, forcing a running clock in the second half, and rolling to a 52-7 victory over Ida Baker in the district-opener for both teams. The Tarpons forced four fumbles in the win, and recovered them all, including one for a touchdown late in the first half. They also needed just nine offensive plays to score their first 24 points of the night.

DID YOU SEE THAT: D’Vonte Price touched the ball only twice on offense, but he scored on long plays both times. He started his night with an 83-yard rush down the sideline, which he used his speed to put all the Ida Baker defenders far behind him. His next carry was a 56-yard score, but was nearly only a five-yard gain, yet he some how escaped a pack of Bulldogs, and this time used his elusiveness to get to the end zone.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN: The buzzer sounded to end the first quarter. The Tarpons held a 17-0 lead at that time, and looked dominant in every phase of the game. A seven-yard pass from Dee Hicks to Jacob White gave them their first score on the first drive, Kenny Scribner converted a 27-yard field goal to put them up 10-0 early on the night.

UNSUNG HERO: Travon McClary made an impact on both sides of the ball in Friday’s win. The senior scored a touchdown on a 55-yard reverse for his only carry of the night to give the Tarpons a 17-0 lead in the first quarter. McClary also recovered a fumble which was forced by Cazea Smith.

THEY SAID IT: “In the first district game, we came out to play tonight. I thought we played great up front. They key was we had a great week of practice.” — Charlotte coach Binky Waldrop.
