PORT CHARLOTTE — Tonight’s game between Port Charlotte and Cape Coral has been officially confirmed.
According to Charlotte County School District spokesman Mike Riley, they haven’t heard anything – good or bad – from anybody on the Cape Coral side, after there was supposed to be an investigation into the disturbance and possible threats of violence which postponed the game originally scheduled for Friday.
There will be enhanced security and police presence at the game, just as a precautionary measure, but at this point, it appears as if the disturbance between the Cape Coral players and students has settled down.

Here’s what you need to know for the game tonight. Note the start time is 7:00 p.m.:
Cape Coral (0-2 ) at Port Charlotte (2-0)
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Last week: Cape Coral did not play; Port Charlotte did not play
Last season: Port Charlotte 57, Cape Coral 21.
Players to watch: Cape Coral: Maurice Flournoy (Sr., QB), D.J. Lewis (Sr., WR/LB), Isaac Washington (Sr., RB/DB); Port Charlotte: Paul Barnes (Jr., QB), Tiyan “Pop” Bush (Sr., LB), Earnest Harvey (Sr., RB)
What to expect: Both teams had a bye last week, so there’s no advantage for either team with the extra time to prepare for the District 6A-10 opener. In last year’s matchup, the Pirates dropped 57 on the Seahawks, feasting on the Cape Coral defense. This time around, look for the Pirates’ tough defensive line to attack a weak offensive line for the Seahawks, with players like Devin Leacock getting plenty of shots at quarterback Maurice Flournoy.
