YOUR Athlete of the Week
Congratulations to North Port cross country runner Louie Dietrich, who was named the Athlete of the Week for Sept. 19-24 after receiving 503 votes.
It was his second great week in a row, as this time around, he led all of the boys area runners with a time of 16:53.30 at the North Port Invite, becoming just the sixth Bobcat to ever break the 17-minute mark in cross country.
The results with 1,333 votes cast through 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Suncoastsportsnow.com:
Louie Dietrich, North Port: 37.73%
Marc Jean-Louis, Port Charlotte: 34.06%
Victor Mellor, Lemon Bay: 8.85%
Maleek Williams, Charlotte: 7.43%

JORDAN’S athlete of the week
My pick for athlete of the week goes to Port Charlotte’s Marc Jean-Louis.
NFL players complain about two games in five days every season, mostly because of the beating they take each Sunday and the shortened recuperation time between then and a Thursday night game, so you can only imagine how tough that can be for high school players.
That didn’t seem to matter to Jean-Louis last week, who helped lead the Pirates to two shutouts — a 56-0 win over Cape Coral last Monday and a 28-0 win over Booker on Friday.
Jean-Louis, a sophomore, combined for 169 rushing yards in the two games in a multi-talented backfield and also had 65 receiving yards to keep Port Charlotte rolling to a 4-0 start to the season.
BRYAN’S Athlete of the Week
It’s rare to have two games in one week, but Marc Jean-Louis took advantage of it.
The Port Charlotte running back was instrumental in a pair of wins on Monday and Friday. He totaled 169 yards on the ground, while adding 65 more receiving yards. He also scored a pair of touchdowns.
With that performance, he’s one of three area players in the top 10 in both rushing (275) and receiving (83) yards on the season.
