IN A NUTSHELL: Brayden Curry gained 143 yards on 23 carries and scored four touchdowns, while Victor Mellor caught four passes for 93 yards and a touchdown on the first play of the game to lead Lemon Bay to a 43-20 victory over Bayshore in a District 5A-11 matchup.
DID YOU SEE THAT: On the first play from scrimmage from their own 35-yard line, Hayden Wolff dropped back and hit Mellor in stride at midfield. Mellor outran the defense the rest of the way for a 65-yard touchdown to put the Manta Rays up 8-0 just 22 seconds into the game.
THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN: Lemon Bay recovered a fumble at Bayshore’s 35-yard line on the second play of the third quarter. The Manta Rays quickly turned that into points, needing only three plays to score on Curry’s second touchdown run of the game, an 11-yard sweep that made it 30-7 with 10:50 to go in the quarter.
THEY SAID IT: “One thing is we protected our quarterback. Our line did a good job. I think coming out and scoring on that first play got us off to the right start and gave our kids some confidence.”-Lemon Bay coach D.J. Ogilvie
