My pick for athlete of the week goes to Lemon Bay swimmer Hunter Scott.
The lady Manta Ray was the area’s only regional champion on Saturday, winning the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.93. She’ll be seeded third at the Class 2A state meet this Saturday.
But that isn’t the only reason she’s my pick. Scott also qualified for states in the 500-yard freestyle after finishing third at regionals with a time of 5:01.01.
Scott has been one of the area’s top swimmers all year long and her talent in the water shined through this past weekend with pretty high stakes on the line.
This was another week where the voters got it right.
Hunter Scott came up big in the regional championships, and won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.93 to become the area’s only individual champion. This should set her up nicely to potentially make the podium at states this weekend.
