IN A NUTSHELL: D’Vonte Price returned from a six-week absence due to a broken collarbone to score three touchdowns — two on receptions from quarterback Dee Hicks and another out of the wildcat — to lead Charlotte to a 35-6 victory over Boca Ciega at home in a Class 6A regional quarterfinal. Hicks also connected with Andrew Grace for a score while Jacob White came away with a pick-six for a defense that held a shutout until midway through the fourth quarter.

DID YOU SEE THAT: Price’s second touchdown came with some crafty footwork. Hicks got Price the ball near the right sideline and Price tiptoed around multiple defenders before cutting left back up the field and through more defenders for a 27-yard touchdown that put Charlotte up 20-0 heading into halftime.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN: Charlotte went on a 12-play, 69-yard touchdown drive to begin the second half that chewed up almost half the clock in the quarter and didn’t end until Price scored on an 8-yard run out of the wildcat to extend the lead to 27-0.

UNSUNG HERO: Charlotte’s defensive line. The front four played a huge role in field position in the first half as the Tarpons began their first four drives on Boca Ciega’s side of the field. The defense also had six sacks, including two and a half by Nathan McCann.

THEY SAID IT: “It was a great game. They showed up ready to play today. They came out and played well right from the start and that’s what you’ve got to do. At this point in the season, if you come out sloppy or let your guard down, your season ends and we weren’t going to do that tonight.” — Charlotte coach Binky Waldrop.
