PREP ROUNDUP: Recaps from Lemon Bay, North Port, Port Charlotte tonight

BOYS BASKETBALL

LEMON BAY 85, SARASOTA 73

The Manta Rays began their preseason Tuesday with an 85-73 win against Sarasota.

Jake Comer had a team-best 20 points for Lemon Bay. He hit five of his six 3-pointers in the second half.

Keegan Wyman hit four 3-pointers to give him 17 points. The Manta Rays shot 14-of-18 from the charity stripe in the win.

 

NORTH PORT 82, RIVERVIEW 69

The Bobcats were led by Bryan O’Boyle in an 82-69 preseason win over Riverview on Tuesday.

O’Boyle had a game-high 32 points, and was back by Ben Via with 19 points.

A.J. Caldwell scored 30 for Riverview, and Bryion Whitley added another 25 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

LEMON BAY 58, IDA BAKER 20

The regular season started on the right foot for the Manta Rays in a district-win over Ida Baker

Lemon Bay won 58-20 behind 17 points from junior Francesca Gallucci. She also added 11 rebounds.

Kelsey Hansen scored 13 points with 16 rebounds, and Katie Stevens added eight points.

GIRLS SOCCER

PORT CHARLOTTE 3, CYPRESS LAKE 0

The Pirates (3-2) wasted no time scoring, as Teala Brown found the back of the next just 44 seconds into the match on the way to a 3-0 win over Cypress Lake.

The score remained until the 56th minute, when Dayna Borges put her team up 2-0 on an assist by Alden Goucher, who also assisted Brittany McGivern’s goal in the 70th minute.

Goalkeeper Grace Stec need to make just one save in the win, as Cypress Lake’s only shot came on a penalty kick. Port Charlotte out-shot the Panthers 14-1.

CHARLOTTE 5, PALMETTO 3

Caitlyn Lowery continued the great start in a 5-3 win for the Tarpons.

Lowery scored three goals and also added one assist. Karina Arias and Avery Carlton also found the back of the net.
