ENGLEWOOD – Charlotte High School senior Breanna Jacobs was pretty busy Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

Jacobs was a cheerleader at the Tarpons football playoff game Friday, and then the next day she won the 139-pound class at the Lemon Bay girls weightlifting invitational. She had a 380-pound total with a 185-pound clean and jerk that was her personal best.

Charlotte won the team title going away with 77 points to runner-up Lemon Bay’s 38. Jacobs is a two-time state champion, winning the 110-pound class in 2015 and the 129-pound class last season.

“I was kind of tired from cheering Friday night,” Jacobs said. “I think I could have done better.”

Besides the clean and jerk, Jacobs had a 195-pound lift in the bench press. In the clean and jerk, she tried to lift 190 pounds but couldn’t make it.

“My goal this year is to win the state championship again,” Jacobs said. “I think I can lift 225 pounds in the bench press and 210 pounds in the clean and jerk.”

Jacobs won her first three meets this season before Saturday.

The Tarpons had four first places. Besides Jacobs, they had Madison Hankinson at 101 pounds (235 total), Natalie Jen at 110 (240) and Tiffany Dodson at unlimited (350).

“We did pretty well,” said Charlotte coach Angie Nolan. “We had some ups and some downs. Our goal is just to keep on improving until the state meet.”

The Tarpons finished second in the state meet last season and hope to do better this season. They are undefeated this season.

Lemon Bay had one first place with Emily Schulte winning at 119 pounds with a 260- pound total. She lifted 125 in the bench press and 135 in the clean and jerk. The Manta Rays also had second places from Savanna Galloway at 154 pounds and Kennedy Reigle at 199.

“We had some good efforts,” Lemon Bay coach Don Southwell said. “We had some good efforts at the top and a lot of depth. That helped us.”

Lemon Bay won a three-way meet last week and was second Saturday so the Manta Rays are now 13-1 this season.

Venice gained third place with 31 points, most of them coming with four first places.
