GIRLS WEIGHTLIFTING: Two-dozen area lifters advance to state meet

The Charlotte High School girls weightlifting team received nine at-large bids Wednesday to the Class 2A State Meet on Feb. 3 at Belleview High School.

Madison Hawkinson (101-pound weight class), Brisilda Bejte (101), Jena Trainor (110), Sylvia Gardien (129), Shelby Beisner (154), Emily Vaughn (169), Mahra Ross (199), Tiffany Dodson (unlimited) and Britney Williams (unlimited) will join teammates Natalie Jen (110), Breanna Jacobs (129), Britney Augustin (139), who won regional titles last week.

The Class 1A at-large bids were announced last week, with five Lemon Bay weightlifters and four Port Charlotte weightlifters added to the finals on Feb. 2 at Belleview.

Lemon Bay’s Hannah Kane (101), Skylar Swencki (110), Emily Schulte (119), Kacee Nelson (119) and Kennedy Riegle (199) will head to Ocala with teammates and regional champions Macayla Marinola (129) and Savanna Galloway (154).
For Port Charlotte, Emma Prichett (129), Kaelyn Griffiths (154), Zoeie Kaufman (199) and Giovanna Livingston-Witter (unlimited) received at-large bids, joining Pirates’ regional champion Maranda Eckhoff (139).
