PREP ROUNDUP: Port Charlotte lacrosse, North Port wrestling


PALM HARBOR — North Port High School crowned two district champions at Friday’s District 3A-8 meet en route to a third-place team finish.

Braydon McLellen (126) and Schavallis Peterson (285) each won their weight classes to clinch spots at next week’s Region 3A-2 meet. The duo will also be joined by teammates Aaron Green (170), Austin Mayes (160) and Tymofiy Romarniuk (145).

Green and Romarniuk each finished second in their weight classes while Mayes wrestled to third.

North Port finished in third as a team with 97.5 points, behind host Palm Harbor University (198.5 points) and second-place Manatee (182.5).


Cassidy Francis scored seven goals to lead Port Charlotte’s girls lacrosse team to a 15-3 win over Immokalee on Friday. Brittany King also scorted six goals for the Pirates while Brooke Ollerenshaw and Hannah Bruglio each added another.

Kristina Vera, Jennifer Olivares and Mandi Perez each scored a goal for Immokalee.
