PUNTA GORDA¬† — Charlotte collected five of its eight hits in the fifth inning Thursday night to score four runs and finish off a 10-0 victory against rival Port Charlotte.

Alyssa Opsahl led off the bottom of the fifth with a single and was sacrificed to second. Kerstyn Shaw’s infield single put runners on the corners with one out.

A run scored on starting pitcher Julie Dedrick’s ground ball that went for an error. The top of the Tarpons order followed with three straight hits to score two more runs and leave the bases loaded. With Kaylee Brannon, Marissa Stack and Abby Hayse on base, freshman Kaitlyn Hopper drew a walk to force in Brannon with the run to finish off the mercy-rule shortened game.

Dedrick scattered three hits and struck out six to earn the victory. The Tarpons were aided by seven walks, one hit batter to go along with three Pirates errors.
