Tiffany Dodson had a no-hitter through five innings and Taylor Kirkus drove in five runs to carryCharlotte’s softball team to a 7-4 win over DeSoto County.
Kirkus singled in the first run of the game in the third inning as the Tarpons struck for three runs off Michaela Cross. It appeared as if those three runs would be all the Tarpons needed as the Bulldogs were only able to get one ball out of the infield through five innings while Dodson fanned 6.
A one out error, single and a hit batter juiced the bases for the Tarpons’ slugging first baseman in the seventh inning. Kirkus then drove a pitch deep into the night for a grand slam. It turned out that Kirkus’ homer was the winning hit as the Bulldogs mounted a comeback in their half of the seventh.
With one out, a pair of walks and the second catcher’s interference call of the night loaded the bases for the Bulldogs. Shea Lipe broke the shutout with a double to left center. Two more runs scored on a ground out. Malyssa Jeter, who hit three homers in her last game, bounced out to end the game. The Tarpons picked up their fourthrth win in five games while the Bulldogs evened their record at 2-2.
