North Port High School sent two wrestlers to next week’s Class 3A state meet.
Braydon McLellen clinched his spot with a second-place finish at the Region 3A-2 meet Saturday at George Jenkins High School, falling to Freedom’s Tommy Barker by a 9-2 decision in the championship in the 126-pound weight class.
Schavallis Peterson also advanced to Kissimmee with a second-place finish in the 285 class, losing to Nicholas Parsons out of Osceola by a 3-1 decision.
North Port finished 10th overall with 51 points. Osceola won the region with a score of 158.5.
Charlotte High School took home first place at the fifth annual Manta Ray Invitational on Saturday with 61 points, just edging out Lemon Bay’s total of 60.
Kaden Howell (119-pound weight class), Shek Ayemperoumal (183) and Devin Markstahler (219) all took home individual titles for the Tarpons.
Individual champions for the Manta Rays were Logan Lydic (139), Treston Copp (169) and Brayden Curry (199).
Port Charlotte was also in attendance, finishing fifth with 16 points. Devin Leacock was the Pirates’ lone champion in the heavyweight class.
