Kyle Machado did it with his bat and his arm Tuesday night to lead Charlotte to an 8-2 win over North Port at home in District 7A-11 action.
Machado pitched six innings, striking out seven and giving up zero earned runs on four hits. He also went 2 for 3 at the plate and drove in two runs.
Aaron Martins went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI. Chris Naskale, Clayton Toth and Shane LeMaster all drove in one run apeice for the Tarpons (11-4, 4-1).
Charlie Davidson suffered the loss on the mound for North Port, surrendering six earned runs on five hits, two walks and two hit batters. He had two strikeouts.
Kody Brittain and Nathan Vetter each drove in a run for the Bobcats (8-9, 0-5).
Port Charlotte suffered its third straight district loss.
Mariner’s Hannah Holloway one-hit Port Charlotte with eight strikeouts.
Pirates pitcher Seaaira Yiengst twisted an ankle in a hole in front of the pitcher’s rubber. She was taken to the team bus by cart after the game.
Mariner (9-2 in district) clinched second place in the regular-season District 6A-11 standings.
Port Charlotte (6-5) can still finish third if it can win Friday’s rematch with the Tritons.
