SOFTBALL NOTEBOOK: North Port wins coin flip for districts, updated area stats

By Jordan Kroeger, SunCoast Sports
Every seed is officially set for next week’s district tournaments.
Areas teams already knew most of their seeds minus North Port, which had to engage in a coin-flip tiebreaker last week with Venice. The Bobcats won the toss to grab the 2-seed in the District 7A-11 Tournament and home field against the Indians.
North Port will be trying to make its first playoff appearance under coach Dennis Bell.
Charlotte hasn’t had a lot go right in the second half of the season, considering it’ll be the 4-seed next week and have to travel to Fort Myers for district play. But the Tarpons found out that pitcher Julie Dedrick’s arm isn’t broken after she took a pitch to the elbow in a tournament in Ocala. Tiffany Dodson pitched both games last week — a win over Port Charlotte and a loss to Lakewood Ranch — but Dedrick should be available for next week’s matchup with Fort Myers.
Lemon Bay split its two games last week, defeating Port Charlotte and losing to Venice in a 2-0 shutout. The Pirates lost their other area game to Charlotte, remaining winless in nondistrict games.
