IN A NUTSHELL: It was a shootout between North Port and Southeast in the teams’ spring game, with the Seminoles holding on for a 40-35 win at the Preserve. Southeast quarterback Alex Taylor threw for 315 yards and four touchdowns as the Seminoles built a 19-point lead before the Bobcats pulled close with two late touchdowns. Taylor outdueled a North Port offense that saw receiver C.K. Poulos catch six passes for 134 yards and three touchdowns.

DID YOU SEE THAT: You couldn’t miss all the fumbles and lucky bounces that went Southeast’s way. The Seminoles fumbled the ball eight times but the Bobcats could only manage to recover one loose ball in a game where their defense struggled to get stops.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN: Latrell Peavy ripped off a 15-yard touchdown run 29 seconds into the fourth quarter to put Southeast up by 19 points. Those seven points turned out to be enormous as North Port pulled to within five with 64 seconds remaining in the game.

UNSUNG HERO: After North Port starting quarterback Devon Allen left the game in the second half with an elbow injury, backup quarterback Tyler Kirby nearly pulled off a late rally for the Bobcats with two touchdown drives in the fourth quarter, including a touchdown throw to Poulos.

THEY SAID IT: “I was proud of our effort. We got a little dinged up going into the game and had a couple of injuries during the game, so we had a lot of young kids get in to play and they played hard. We have to go look at it on film and see how we did. I think effort-wise it was a pretty good job.” – North Port coach Brian Hatler
