PORT CHARLOTTE — Friday’s game between the Charlotte Stone Crabs and Jupiter Hammerheads was postponed after just one inning of play due to unplayable field conditions.
Rain wasn’t necessarily the issue, as it poured for a small amount of time. However, Charlotte grounds crew had trouble getting the tarp completely on the field, which allowed homeplate, first base and third base to get drenched.
Neither team had a hit through the first inning. Stone Crabs pitcher Blake Bivens allowed a first-inning walk to Angel Reyes, but he was thrown out trying to steal second base by catcher David Rodriguez.
This game will be continued Saturday afternoon as part of a doubleheader. It will be picked up on Sunday at 12:05, and then will be followed by a seven-inning game to close out the series. Saturday’s 3:05 game is still on as scheduled.
