IN A NUTSHELL: Despite two lightning delays, Friday night was a spring classic between Port Charlotte and Riverview that went down to the wire. With the Pirates trailing 21-14 with 5:08 remaining, Shamar Harvey scored a four-yard touchdown to pull his team to within a point. Instead of playing for the tie, Port Charlotte coach Jordan Ingman kept his offense on the field and quarterback Paul Barnes ran in a 2-point conversion to give the Pirates a 22-21 victory at Riverview.

DID YOU SEE THAT: Following a three-and-out on Riverview’s opening possession, the Rams’ punt went straight into the air amidst a driving rainstorm and never crossed the line of scrimmage. Riverview’s Cleve Grantley wisely picked up the live ball and ran it all the way down to Port Charlotte’s 10-yard line to set up Ali Boyce’s touchdown, which put the Rams up 7-0.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN: Riverview drove to Port Charlotte’s 30-yard line late in the game, only needing a field goal to win. That’s when defensive back Skylar Razwilavich intercepted Riverview quarterback Arthur Brantley for the second time to ice the game with just over two minutes remaining.

UNSUNG HERO: Davon Keyes intercepted Brantley midway through the fourth quarter to set up Port Charlotte’s final touchdown. Harvey would score three plays later.

THEY SAID IT: “We had five starters out on injury already and another four or five go down in the game so the perseverance was incredible. We didn’t out scheme them, we didn’t outcoach them — out kids outworked them and that’s why I’m proud of them. In today’s culture it’s hard to get a group of people to be unselfish and those guys showed a tremendous amount of unselfishness.” – Port Charlotte coach Jordan Ingman
