STONE CRABS: Game postponed after netting breaks

PORT CHARLOTTE — There’s an old saying that you see something new every time you go to a baseball game.

Well, fans at Saturday’s Charlotte Stone Crabs game can certainly claim that to be true.

In the fourth inning against the Jupiter Hammerheads, Charlotte’s Alec Sole hit an innocent foul ball behind the plate, which brought catcher Roy Morales to fall into the net.

Nothing unusual there, except in an extremely bizarre incident, a support rope for the net tore apart, which made the net come crashing down on to the field.

The game was immediately delayed, and eventually postponed.

This means Sunday at Charlotte Sports Park will feature two partial games.

First, Friday’s rained-out game will be picked up in the top of the second inning. Following the conclusion of that game, Saturday’s will be resumed in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Sunday’s regularly scheduled game has been canceled.
