PORT CHARLOTTE — The weather spoiled a birthday gem for Travis Ott Thursday night.
With intense lightning surrounding the area, the Charlotte Stone Crabs’ game against the Tampa Yankees was delayed before a rain storm came rolling into Charlotte Sports Park.
Ott tossed four scoreless innings before being interrupted by the weather. He faced the minimum 12 batters through those four innings, and struck out five batters.
The only Yankee to reach base was Tito Polo, who twice hit a single, but both times he was thrown out on the base paths.
Charlotte plated two runs and were threatening to score more when the game was postponed. Ryan Boldt’s leadoff double in the bottom of the fourth inning allowed David Rodriguez to pick up an RBI with his single.
David Olmedo-Barrera scored the first run in the second inning. He took advantage of a two-out error by stealing second base and then coming around to score on a single from Angel Moreno.
This was the last game of the series between the Yankees and Stone Crabs. That means the remainder of the game will likely be made up when Tampa returns to town for a three-game set on July 18.
