FOOTBALL: Schools now deal with schedule issues

ENGLEWOOD — Hurricane Irma has made a mess of football schedules across the state and the three Charlotte County schools were no exception.

The Manta Rays’ District 5A-11 opener this past Friday night against DeSoto County was postponed due to the storm and has been rescheduled for Oct. 2.

That’s incredibly noteworthy because it forces Lemon Bay to play three games — two district contests — over the course of seven days. The matchup with DeSoto County is sandwiched between games against reigning district champion Hardee on Sept. 29 and Estero on Oct. 6.
