PUNTA GORDA — Last year’s Charlotte County Girls Golf Championship wasn’t particularly close.
Charlotte pulled away for a 30-stroke victory over Lemon Bay thanks to solid performances by Becky Davis (82) and Laren Fender (89). Both girls are back for the Tarpons in 2017, but there’s a new golfer over at Lemon Bay that could very well make the Manta Rays the favorite today.
That’s North Port transfer Meadow Southworth.
Southworth has made a world of difference for the Manta Rays, who have already defeated the Tarpons twice this season, including on Tuesday by 14 strokes.
Lemon Bay will look to make it three straight over Charlotte today at St. Andrews South, the site of this year’s championship.
