FOOTBALL: Area capsules for Tuesday’s games

By Jordan Kroeger, SunCoast Sports

Charlotte (2-2, 1-0) at Ida Baker (0-3, 0-1)

Kickoff: 7 p.m.
Last week: Charlotte 57, Island Coast 0; Cape Coral 55, Ida Baker 15.
Last season: Charlotte 52, Ida Baker 7.
Players to watch: Charlotte: Anthony Squitieri (Jr., QB), Savorion Warren (Sr., RB/DB), Ny Harvey (Sr., RB/S), Jayden Grant (Jr., DE), Jeremiah Harvey (So., RB/S); Ida Baker: Chris Kovacs (Sr., QB), James Logan (Jr., WR/S), Shomari Mason (Jr., ATH); Thomas Morreal (Sr., WR).
What to expect: The Tarpons couldn’t have started district play much better on Friday when they shut out Island Coast. Anthony Squitieri made his first start under center and threw two touchdowns while Jeremiah Harvey scored three times for Charlotte, which put up 43 points in the first half. Ida Baker is still winless in 2017 and has lost all three games by 17 points or more. Charlotte won last year’s matchup against Ida Baker pretty handily and has taken the last three meetings in the series.

Port Charlotte (3-1, 0-1) at Cape Coral (2-1, 1-0)

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Last week: North Fort Myers 27, Port Charlotte 23; Cape Coral 55, Ida Baker 15.
Last season: Port Charlotte 56, Cape Coral 0.
Players to watch: Port Charlotte: Paul Barnes (Sr., QB), Octavious Cummings (Sr., RB), T.J. Luther (Sr., WR/S), Devin Leacock (Sr., DL), Ludison Jeanty (Sr., DL), Skylar Razwilavich (Sr., LB); Cape Coral: Dwayne Emilus (Sr., QB/WR/S), Rickey Anderson (Sr., RB/S).
What to expect: The Pirates last their district opener while the Seahawks won theirs on Friday. This is a critical game for Port Charlotte, which can’t afford a second straight district loss with Charlotte still on the schedule. This is a different Cape Coral squad than the one Port Charlotte blew out last season as seven different players accounted for eight touchdowns in the Seahawks’ win on Friday. Port Charlotte’s defense must key on the rushing duo of Dwayne Emilus and Rickey Anderson to bounce back.
