PUNTA GORDA — Seacrest High School has been a thorn in the side of Charlotte’s volleyball team in each of the last two years at the Gene Gorman Invitational.
In the 2017 rendition of the eight-team tournament hosted by the Tarpons, it wasn’t the Stingrays they had to worry about. That role belonged to Riverview, and the Rams didn’t just stick Charlotte, they gashed them on the way to earning the championship trophy.
Riverview swept the Tarpons 2-0 (25-18, 25-14) in the title game, with setter Kayla Walker taking home outstanding player of the tournament honors and $1,000 for the Rams’ athletic scholarship fund.
