FOOTBALL: Lemon Bay needs wins, help to make playoffs

By Jordan Kroeger, SunCoast Sports

ENGLEWOOD — Lemon Bay coach Don Southwell had some pretty strong feelings about the state’s new football playoff system.

“I’ve never put any stock into the points. I don’t know if you belong in the playoffs if you don’t win your district. Period,” Southwell said.

Unfortunately for the Manta Rays, a district championship may already be out of reach thanks to a loss against Hardee on Sept. 29. To make matters worse, Lemon Bay currently sits 18th in the Region 5A-3 standings out of 21 teams with 26.5 points, 10 back of Mariner for the final playoff spot.
