NORTH PORT — Elijah Davis ran for two touchdowns and Anthony Marino threw for two more as Palmetto overcame a slow start to defeat North Port, 37-0 in a District 7A-11 matchup Friday night at the Preserve.
The Tigers stopped themselves with numerous holding penalties in the first quarter, but put two touchdowns on the board in the second quarter, then overwhelmed the Bobcats with three scores in the first 5:28 of the third quarter to put the game away and start a running clock.
“Palmetto’s a good football team and they wore us down,” North Port coach Brian Hatler said. “We’ve been battling some injuries and we played hard, but they’ve got some physicality and they’ve got some speed, and they wore on us a little bit. We didn’t execute as well as we needed to to stay in the game.”
