SWIMMING & DIVING: Barnes wins district title

PUNTA GORDA — Charlotte coach Jeff Cain wasn’t particularly worried about his team’s performance at Thursday’s District 3A-9 meet.

He’s more focused on next week’s regional, which is why he had his swimmers completed a full workout Wednesday night where they swam about 7,000 yards.

The Tarpons were exhausted on Thursday, but that didn’t stop Micah Barnes from winning the 100-yard backstroke. The sophomore swam the event in one minute, 01.60 seconds, nearly two seconds faster than her seed time and more than two seconds faster than runner-up Madi Baron from Fort Myers (1:03.94).
