PUNTA GORDA — Following football games, typical protocol involves the teams shaking hands in a cordial manner.
That didn’t happen after Friday night’s meeting of county rivals Charlotte and Port Charlotte at Wally Keller Stadium.
After the Tarpons defeated the Pirates 24-21 on a field goal as time expired, there was a scuffle near midfield as the teams approached to shake hands that at least included arguing and shoving among the players. Charlotte has video of the ordeal, according to athletic director Brian Nolan, but won’t release any details until Nolan meets with Port Charlotte athletic director Bob Bruglio.
