PUNTA GORDA — Often, in a season opener, athletes seek modest goals in hopes of bigger returns later in the year.
At the Lady Tarpon Invitational girls weightlifting meet at Charlotte High School on Thursday, there would be no room for modesty.
The proof was some of the scores recorded, especially from host Charlotte, which won six of the 10 weight classes on its way to 80 points and a convincing victory over runner-up North Port, which had 60. Fort Myers was third (50), followed by Venice (17) and Riverdale (13), which only brought a handful of lifters.
